  • How long are the sessions?

    3 hours - 11 am to 2pm.

  • Can I join even if I have no prior experience in filmmaking?

    Absolutely! Our academy welcomes students of all experience levels. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some experience in filmmaking, our classes are designed to accommodate and support your learning journey.

  • What kind of support can I expect from the instructors?

    Our expert instructors are dedicated to providing personalised guidance and support to each student. Whether you need assistance with understanding a concept, mastering a technique, or developing a project, our instructors are here to help you every step of the way.

  • How much is it and how do I pay?

    We charge £12 per hour, with payments made monthly. The program runs for 39 weeks per year, excluding school holidays, and fees are evenly spread across 12 months. There are no sign-up fees, hidden costs, or binding contracts.

  • What makes Brilliant Film Academy different?

    Brilliant Film Academy offers hands-on film training for young people aged 11-19. Students gain practical skills in various aspects of filmmaking, build a strong portfolio, and benefit from connections with industry professionals and organizations like the BBC and Hertfordshire Film Office.

    Yes, Brilliant Film Academy provides comprehensive training and portfolio-building opportunities, which can enhance applications to film schools. Additionally, the academy offers guidance and connections for further training and work experience in the film industry.

We pride ourselves on having the best industry professionals as teachers. Our film teachers have years of experience and have worked on countless projects spanning numerous genres. Our students benefit from their knowledge and support, and we offer regular workshops from visiting film professionals to help students keep up with the latest trends and techniques.

David Jenkins

With over two decades immersed in the captivating worlds of film and theatre, David stands as a seasoned professional. A maestro of theatrical achievements and a prolific producer of large-scale productions for both aspiring young talents and seasoned professionals, David has seamlessly transitioned his expertise into the realm of filmmaking for over a decade.


His cinematic journey began with the student film that not only graced film festivals but also clinched the prestigious Cineworld Film Festival award. David's latest venture, the uproarious comedy "The Players" (working title), penned by Jack Donnelly and featuring a stellar cast including Jack Donnelly, Joel Mellinger, Cyril Nri, Jason Isaacs, CJ Johnson, Paul Sandys, and Kevin Trainor, is a testament to his continued dedication to cinematic excellence.


Adding to the glitz of Hollywood, David also just has served as an associate producer for Legendary Pictures on the riveting project "Crocodile." and "Wheels of Heaven" with Mickey Rourke, Gary Stretch, Geoff Bell and Lee Ryan. Now Davids impact extends beyond the silver screen; he is the visionary owner of the Brilliant Film Academy. This academy serves as a beacon, providing invaluable training in filmmaking to young enthusiasts, while also unlocking doors to professional opportunities for budding talents across the UK. Affiliated with the esteemed Oscar and BAFTA winning media company Goldfinch, BBC Studios, Hertfordshire Film Office and The Odyssey Cinema in St Albans Davids influence resonates far and wide, shaping the future of cinema and training for young people.


David also brings a wealth of knowledge with a career that began in professional theatre at the age of 15, David has established himself as a significant figure in the industry.


David's early career was shaped by his work with Grassroots Theatre Company, owned by the renowned Welsh playwright Frank Vickery. Over many years, David managed Grassroots' tours, bringing performances to some of the biggest and best theatres in Wales and the South East. His experience also includes extensive tours with OMTC Pantomimes and "A Night with Peter Polycarpou" at London's Garrick Theatre showcasing his versatility and dedication to theatre.


In addition to his managerial roles, David has also made his mark as a writer and co-director. His notable projects include "Frank Sinatra: Life Through Music" at Victoria Halls in Stoke On Trent, "Engaged" at the White Lion Theatre, David's formal training as an actor has led to numerous stage and screen appearances. His on-screen credits include roles in British television series and independent films, where he has demonstrated his range and talent as an actor. His contributions to the theatre and film community have been recognized through his fellowship with the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). Furthermore, David's insights into the business and theatre worlds have been featured in several books.


Most recently, David produced a professional production of "The Last Five Years" at The Minack Theatre and in the pipeline is a brand new TV comedy plus a time travelling Sci Fi adventure series. 


He finds it genuinely invigorating to witness the passion for learning among students and their eagerness to grasp the intricacies of filmmaking. As a member of the Brilliant team, Ross aims to infuse a youthful energy into the learning experience for children, ensuring they feel empowered to ask questions, make independent choices in their projects, enjoy an educational yet enjoyable time, and foster collaborative efforts with fellow students to craft award-winning films.

Jason Impey

Head of Film

Trained in Television Production at the University of Gloucestershire for 3 years, where he served as Director of Photography and directed numerous projects spanning fiction, documentary, and broadcast. Both before and after completing his degree, Ross has embarked on various professional endeavors, including working in Morocco for the FIFA Club World Cup, spending 5 weeks in Dubai for the COP28 conference, and contributing to the BRIT Awards 2024, among other engagements. While Ross primarily works as a camera assistant, he is also proficient in operating cameras when required.



He finds it genuinely invigorating to witness the passion for learning among students and their eagerness to grasp the intricacies of filmmaking. As a member of the Brilliant team, Ross aims to infuse a youthful energy into the learning experience for children, ensuring they feel empowered to ask questions, make independent choices in their projects, enjoy an educational yet enjoyable time, and foster collaborative efforts with fellow students to craft award-winning films.

Annie Hawkins

I completed a bachelors degree in film, television and digital production at Royal Holloway, University of London and I specialised in cinematography throughout my studies.


I love being at brilliant film academy and watching young filmmakers develop their skills in such a nurturing but hands on environment. With the help of staff passing on their technical and creative knowledge they are free to experiment and find their interests within this expansive industry

Ross Buchanan

Support filmmaker

I trained in Television Production at the University of Gloucestershire for 3 years, where I DOP'd and directed most projects; from fiction, documentary and broadcast. Before and after finishing my degree, I've worked in Morocco for the FIFA Club World Cup, Dubai for the COP28 conference for 5 weeks and have worked on the BRIT awards 2024 (to name a few). I work mainly as a camera assistant but operate when needed.


It's honestly refreshing to see our student's passion for learning and their want to understand the processes behind filmmaking. By being a part of the Brilliant team, I want to bring a youthful energy to the kids learning experience, ensuring they are always confident to ask questions, make individual choices on their projects, to have a fun / educational time and to collaborate with other students to create award winning films.
